Our philosophy

Origin and philosophy

Aji grew out of the idea of creating a chili sauce that is hot yet full of flavour – not just for seasoning, but above all as a dip or topping that sets off an explosion of taste.

The name goes back to Christopher Columbus: on his voyage to America in 1492 he discovered the fiery peppers and noted them in his logbook under the name „Aji“ [a.´xi].

Our home is Bremen – this is where Aji has its roots. Today our sauce is produced in Hamburg. Aji thus connects South American food culture with northern German creativity.

How hot is Aji really?

Würzig has no heat at all. Pikant is mild and perfect for beginners, Scharf is uncompromising, Feurig calls for a glass of milk – and Höllisch is for the brave only. All varieties taste of tomato and chili first, not just of heat.

What does Aji go with?

Almost everything: burgers, pizza, wraps, nachos, fries, kebab, tacos, bowls, scrambled eggs, cheese sandwiches, fried potatoes, grilled vegetables, steak, falafel, pasta, currywurst and much more. As a dip or to refine tomato sauces and dressings – there are no limits to your imagination.

Is Aji vegan and gluten-free?

Yes. All varieties are purely plant-based, gluten-free and without added sugar (they contain naturally occurring sugar from the tomatoes). The heat comes solely from chilis – no flavourings.

How long does Aji keep and how do I store it?

Unopened: up to three years from the production date. Store in a dry place away from sunlight. The exact best-before date is on every bottle.

Opened: keep in the fridge and consume promptly.

Please do not expose to direct sunlight or heat for longer periods – Aji contains no preservatives.
